History
The leadership of Aralia is a council composed from the heads of the six most powerful families of Aralia; Originally there were only four members on the High Council. Tys Solus was the clan head of his family at the time of the council's formation. Tys was nearly killed, when a man assaulted him in an alley, but Tys' own skill with a blade made the match more than the assailant was expecting. Whether this was just an attempted robbery/murder for profit, or a hired hit is unknown.
As a founding member of the council, Tys was instrumental in establishing codified trade standards, for better regulation of the nation's internal and external economic transactions. He refined a system of metrics already in use, by deciding who's foot, hand, arm, span, pace, and such, was the base. He had measuring sticks, and weights crafted to ensure no one was short-spanning anyone else. Other nations even began to standardize their measures as well, at least when trading with Aralian merchants, as they insist upon it.
His family's wealth was amassed from the import and export of textiles. Five centuries have passed and the Solus family still retains a seat on the council.
