A significant area of the iskandean island of Tor Hiem is a wide basin dotted with geysers, hot springs, fumaroles, small cinder cones, and lava domes. This basin formed from the collapsed caldera of the original island forming volcano.

The northwestern quarter of Tor Hiem is occupied by the vast basin which formed from the caldera. At the basin's southern rim stands Shar Tor, a tall spike formed from a side vent now a tower of vertical basalt rock, a ghost of its former majesty.

History

The Tor Hiem Caldera is possibly the most geothermally active zone of the Isk Archipelago. the region is an excellent source of alchemical minerals, and other resources including flora and fauna adapted to the region. Open pit mines and other extraction sites dot the landscape, providing a steady export of materials boosting the island's economy.
