- The Malys Estuary is a wide saltmarsh dotted with low flat patches of exposed rock, surrounded by reeds, and slow water channels.
Location
- Malys River, Torcastan Coast
- This estuary is located at the mouth of the Malys River where it meets the Torcastan Sea.
Settlements
- Etausi
- The Salt Tree Rook, an Etausi Boh rook is located deep within the mangrove forest of the estuary.
- Treahni
- The main river channel through the estuary is claimed by Clan Sand Tra of the Malys, and the northern and southern portions are claimed by their neighbours, Clan Seaswine and Clan Mudfish respectively. Small stilted fishing huts can be found on the larger rocky areas, and hidden amongst the reeds.
Features
- Mangrove
- The southern portion of the estuary is forested by salt tolerant shrubs and trees, forming a flooded forest which is home to a number of arboreal animal species, and a singular group of Etausi.
- Reedbeds
- The central and northern portions of the estuary contain vast swathes of tall reeds. These are regularly harvested by the Malys for crafting materials.
- Salt Pans
- The tidal flooding of the wetland produces several salt pans exploited by the Malys as a source of the valuable substance.
- Tidal Pools
- The Malys have craved many shallow pools into the exposed rocks of the estuary forming traps for a variety of aquatic animals.
History
- The estuary is home to a wide variety of birds, fish, and other wildlife. It has long been a favoured hunting ground of the Malys. Three clans claim territory within its bounds .In addition to this Treahni presence, there is a single tribe of Etausi Boh dwelling within the mangrove forest of the estuary. Relations between the two peoples are limited to infrequent but generally neutral encounters.
