About

In Waejir, newly born children of all social classes are brought to the local temple of Silat, or visited by a temple member who inspects the child for obvious defects which might result is significant physical or social difficulties in life. Children who appear to have deformities, are born premature, or suffer from other detrimental abnormalities will be taken by the temple to return to Silat. These children are no longer considered the offspring of their parents at this point, and it is not considered a shameful thing to give up a child in this manner. There is no dishonour in turning over a child in this manner; it is considered a post-natal miscarriage. The child is given unto the mercy of the All Mother, and the parents may try again to conceive another child.
The eventual fate of such children is generally to be raised as orphans by the temple, and educated in the ways of the clergy. Adult ezawelukonar may choose to serve at other temples dedicated to any of the Waejiran Gods, and may achieve significant rank within. While most ezawelukonar join the clergy proper when they come of age, they are not under any obligation to do so. As a general rule they are discouraged from choosing careers outside of temple life, but occasionally, they will. If they leave, they will have to contend with the greater society's attitudes towards malformed and broken people. A life outside of the temple would not be an easy one, as ezawelukonar have no right to claim any inheritance or legacy from their birth parents, such social and legal connections are severed at the time they were given to the temple.
For babies who cannot or do not survive in the care of the temple, they are returned to Silat, so that their souls may be remade and granted new life.
