Description: These small parasites are most frequently found on teica which suffer mange and scabbing from efforts to scratch the itching caused by these pests. They do not survive well on short haired, or nearly hairless mammals, so most infestations do not last very long.

Virulence: Infestation is near certain if exposed for woolly coated, and long furred animals..
Vector(s): Body to body contact or shared bedding between host and non-host.
Prevention: Isolation and quarantine of infested host, frequent changing of bedding material.

Incubation: Symptoms arise within 10-15 days depending on degree of exposure.
Contagious: Any host is contagious if showing symptoms.
Symptoms: Itching, scabbing, mange, frequent rubbing/scratching behaviour.

Cureability: Depending on the species of host, it is typical that the host will be killed and butchered rather than cured of the infestation.
General: Shearing and combing of the host may remove most of the parasites, but may require a more thorough inspection and individual removal with tweezers.
Medicinal: Washing the host with some soaps may help alleviate the itching symptoms, but often require multiple treatments to eliminate completely.
Surgical: Inspection and removal of individual ticks using tweezers, oils, or burning.
