- A variety of reedy plant related to Noble's Rod. In fact except for the silver colour of the flowers the two look quite similar. The seeds of this plant contain sleep inducing compounds. The root of the Silver Rod makes a bitter tonic, and expectorant. The leaves of the silver rod have been known to irritate exposed skin during the autumn months.
