- Described as a gargantuan whale shaped prominence, this ancient volcano was carved into its present form by glaciers and continental ice-sheets. It is known to have at least one semi-active vent along its broad top, which steams from melting ice and snowfall that enters the caldera. These occasional outbursts of steam and ash are said to resemble the surfacing blow of sea dwelling leviathans, hence the mountain's common name.

- Ice Whale Mountain is located at the Northern terminus of the Darlom Mountains, and is an important landmark for orienteering in the otherwise flat and feature poor landscape of northern tundra.
History
- Some clans amongst the Layor and the Krolayor revere the great mountain and make pilgrimages to the top vent every 3-5 years. Such journeys are considered important rites of passage in these clans, and are not undertaken lightly, as the climb is both long and difficult, crossing several glaciers.
