- Galen is a broad shouldered and well muscled man. His receding hair is mostly grey, and kept short. He keeps his face clean shaven, and has brown eyes. His face and body bear scars of his professional activities, including a misshapen nose, and droopy brow above his left eye. At one time he may have been considered handsome. He dresses in the manner of a typical urban Aralian labourer, favouring the colour green.

- Galen was a bit of a bravo tough during his younger years, though experience has honed his attitude to become a much more tactful and thinking fighter. He still likes to celebrate whatever is convenient, and struggles with mild alcoholism. when sober he can put his mind to other pursuits, and even has a knack for writing poetry.

- Galen is a retired soldier, who is still in decent enough shape to stand his own against most opponents he meets in the sand circles. He used to fight for honour or over whatever disagreement was convenient at the time, but has since gone professional, earning his drinking money and some fame as a pugilist. Despite his greying hair, his strength and stamina are equal to that of younger men, which many opponents have discovered to their chagrin during a bout.
