- Description
- Found in patches of up to fifty plants, this green spade leafed low growing herb produces flame red multi-petal flowers which mature into a single berry covered with a loose papery orange skin. The inner berry is firm dark purple and round, measuring 1-1.5 centimetres in diameter. The fruit has coagulant properties when applied to bleeding wounds, and taken internally can stabilize high or low blood pressure.

- Cloak berry produces fruit in early fall, which persists through the winter. Eaten by birds or other winter foraging animals the fruit contains multiple seeds which germinate in the spring.
