Description
Found in patches of up to fifty plants, this green spade leafed low growing herb produces flame red multi-petal flowers which mature into a single berry covered with a loose papery orange skin. The inner berry is firm dark purple and round, measuring 1-1.5 centimetres in diameter. The fruit has coagulant properties when applied to bleeding wounds, and taken internally can stabilize high or low blood pressure.

Cloak berry produces fruit in early fall, which persists through the winter. Eaten by birds or other winter foraging animals the fruit contains multiple seeds which germinate in the spring.
