History
Mërva buys wool from the Qulani which is shipped into Kythus from Tabras through the Zoöcëskup. Tabrani wool is lighter weight, and has much less lanolin, being from a drier climate than Kythus' rainy west coast. This results in faster processing into fabrics. although she trades some waterproofing for reduction in weight and better dye fastness. If Tabrani merchants wanted to make the trip through to Kythus she would buy from them, but she doesn't see a need to travel through the Qulani controlled pass to make a profit trading at this end. As the Qulani do not produce much textile goods themselves, Mërva often sells articles of seasonal clothing which they wear while above ground. She does not make these items herself, but rather trades dyed woollen cloth with tailors for their finished products.
Travel through the forests, foothills, and mountains is dangerous, as there may be brigands, or worse yet, raiding parties of Pëlöryk about. Given the risk Mërva doesn't make the trip without some type of armed escort. While she admits that she would probably get a better price from the Tabrani directly, the additional costs in time travelling through the mountains both ways, food and wages for her porters, teamsters and caravan guards would negate such gains.
