Katëa winced as her blade crunched through the bone and cartilage of her knuckle.

"I willingly gift you of myself, so you may cloud the eyes of the seekers."

Staunching the flow of blood with rags, she sank into darkness.

In the morning, her prayer answered, her severed finger absent.
