Tavon has sailed with Ak'har Salo since before the fateful voyage that left them both permanently disfigured. Part of Ak'hars face, and most of Tavon's left hand were "lost" in this manner, they also salted the treated areas, which turned out to be a workable surrogate for proper antibiotics. There have been no further outbreaks of the rot aboard the Silver Reefling, whether this is due to luck, diligence on part of the crew, or the Goddess' blessing is open for debate.
