Appearance

Mort is a exceptionally tall man with a lean yet muscular physique. He has dirty blonde hair tied back in a pony tail, a short scruffy goatee, and blue eyes. He dresses in ordinary workers clothing, blending in with the crowds of the city.

Personality

Mort is a survivor, a pragmatist, and ruthless man when he needs to be. He has a strong sense of ethics, and while morally fluid, he does see some virtue in being the protector of children he has become. Mort also holds a curious inquisitive mind, keen wit, and finds it difficult not to try and solve mysteries he encounters. He is also an advocate of self improvement, and constantly trains and conditions himself.

History

Mort grew up on the streets of Corvaise as an orphaned homeless child. The hard knock life taught him to be resourceful, sneaky, and ruthless when necessary. He became an assassin after he personally killed a ghül which was preying on the homeless and destitute in his neighbourhood. Turning in the killer's body for the bounty was his first taste of murder for money, and he decided he could actually make a fair living as a hired blade. He still watches over the neighbourhood orphans, and helps them in subtle ways, but doesn't make it overt, or known that he is the charitable protector they have rumours about. In this he has become a sort of vigilante for the downtrodden, a urban myth that helps the children feel safe enough to sleep at night.

Psionics

Mort is gifted in the psionic path of cloaking. His first talent manifested when he was quite young; during a terrible night while being chased by some surly lads through the streets. Mort hid in a very weak shadow, and honestly doesn't know how they missed him when they passed by. Later he spoke with a older man whom he knew who was an unusually successful pick-pocket. He let Mort in on the secret, and became a mentor of sorts teaching him about the magic within. Vars helped him focus his abilities through disciplined practice. It wasn't easy, but slowly Mort became better at hiding in partial shadows, or blending into a crowd. Later they discussed trying to adapt the talent in new ways, which lead to discovering similar, but different powers.

Mort uses his talents to greatly assist his line of work. He also seeks out other psychics and compares notes about their secret magic as much as he has been able to learn. He is quite knowledgeable about what sorts of powers one might have, but has yet to meet with a scholar of the arcane who specializes in the phenomena, to really get into the study.
