About

The Lakeguard Towers are a pair of square keeps, built on either side of the outflow of <Lake Aihi> where it joins the Bisag Osuwre. These twinned watchtowers contain mechanisms to erect a great chain across the river, to block water traffic from entering or exiting the lake. The towers are four stories in height with small courtyards. Each tower has a catapult mounted on the roof for defensive use against besieging forces or hostile vessels in the channel.

Location

Viko Aihi, Aralia
The twinned keeps brace the banks of the river channel which links Viko Aihi to the Bisag Osuwre at a narrow point and bend in the river approximately 3 Kilometers from the lake's outflow.

Garrison

East Captain
Aj'na Yc'ko
A senior veteran and cousin to Heer Yc'ko the current serving Lake District Councillor for Kayb'r Aihi.
West Captain
Iewy Ri
Also a senior veteran, Iewy is somewhat envious of his counterpart's more prestigious post at the older east tower. As such he tends to be more strict with the soldiers under his command, to affect better discipline and decorum amongst the ranks.
Soldiers of the Lakeguard
Each tower can accommodate a compliment of 25 soldiers comfortably, and twice that amount in times of need. These soldiers, like most professional military in Aralia, are paid mercenaries and owe their loyalty to the City Council of Kayb'r Aihi.

History

Originally a single keep was built in 167 YG and located on the east bank of the channel on the inside bend with water on three sides. This strategic location was critical in establishing control over the lake and provided early protection to the town, which grew into the city of Kayb'r Aihi. In 204 YG, a second keep was constructed in a similar design to the first, on the outer bend and west bank, and the chain gate was integrated into the defenses.
