Pëpahawa awoke, cold and naked upon the moor. The coppery smell of blood filled her senses.
She turned toward the rising sun, seeking its flame. Steam rose from the frost tinged ground. She saw the carnage.
Something had eaten most of a cebuk; one dead eye stared at her accusingly.
