- Balatyna came to the hamlet of Jël a few years ago. When the previous priest fell ill, he took over duties tending to the souls of the hamlet. Given his skills as a speaker, Balatyna became well liked and trusted by the parish. Lacking a proper chapel, he continues to provide religious services out of the Jetty, a local tavern. When not filling the role as a spiritual counsellor, Balatyna serves as the tavern's brewer. His product is mediocre at best.

- Balatyna has fallen in love with the tavernkeeper's wife, Cëläva. The pair have become secret lovers, and Balatyna is the father of her infant son [[]]. Balatyna knows of the abuse her husband does to Cëläva, but has been unable to bring himself to fully remove the problem.
