The men stared, frozen in mid pull upon the oars.
A great pillar of blue-black skin rose up. Salt water rained down as its great shadow consumed the sky.
For a few awful seconds it hung, twisting, before it rolled backwards.
Then the leviathan thundered down atop the longboat.
