Overview
The false garke is not a garke at all, but another creature often mistaken for its more vicious namesake. The false garke is a herbivorous pack creature of the plains. Their fur ranges in colour through browns and reddish shades with a lighter belly. They have vestigial legs barely noticeable on close inspection, and behave in a much less aggressive manner.
Males of the species tend to be slightly larger than females on average, weighing between 40-60 kg. Young are born live, in broods of 3-4 whelps, each spring during the flowering season.
Colonies number between 20-30 adults forming complex tunnelled nests underground, and ranging out to collect foodstuff in groups of 3-6 foragers. The nest complexes will have multiple entrances and guards at watch over the colony during daylight hours.
