- Tövna is a tall lean man, with a fighter's physique. He has short cropped greying brown hair, a trim goatee for a beard, and grey eyes. He dresses in leather pants, high boots, and tunic, with his ring mail hauberk helm, heavy gauntlets, and hooded cloak of the watch while on duty. He carries a broad sword, and round shield, as well as a horn.
Personality
- Tövna is a haunted man, who drowns his ghosts in dark ale. The weight of his traumatic past weighs heavily upon him and his mood reflects a sour outlook on life. He lacks scruples, and is willing to exploit his position to his own ends. He can be arbitrary when applying the local laws and may take bribes if no witnesses are nearby.

- The captain of the watch in Kemp Hyläböm is a man with a few bad habits: drinking, wenching, and extorting travellers to pay for the two previous vices. Family names in Kythus are generally reserved for important families where one's lineage matters socially. So in his case it is an earned moniker. Blackwater is a reference to his general mood which he washes down with stout dark ale.
- Tövna came to Kemp Hyläböm as a teen, frightened and bloodied from a Pëlöryk attack upon his family farm. He won't talk about the experience, and refuses to cross the river. If the guard is needed beyond the island of the town, he will send his second in command.
- Many wonder how man like him, so rumoured to be corrupt can hold a public office like he does. It is generally believed that he is privy to secrets about many of the town's council. Thus his illegal activities are being overlooked due to potential blackmail given his knowledge.
