Swoops are a family of insectivorous birds known for their ability to catch flying insects in the air. They will make diving pendulum manoeuvres while hunting.

A female swoop will make a nest out of clay attached to a tree, cliff, wall, or ledge, and brood 2-4 eggs every spring.

Notable Sub-Species

Cliff Swoop

Generally yellow to golden plumes, with grey or white throats, bellies and underside of their wings and V-shaped tail. This variety makes nests out of dabbed mud attached to cliffs or other suitable vertical surfaces.

Tree Swoop

Blue and gold flecked colouration, with white throats, bellies, and under side of wings and tail, with a pair of long slender tail plumes tipped with a golden spot. This sub-species makes nests in tall open canopied trees.
