Common Names
Scurvy
A disease which causes bleeding of the gums and possible tooth loss in those afflicted. The most frequent victims of this ailment are sailors on long voyages, and the poorest urban class. The cause of and cure for this disease is not known, and it is fatal if left untreated.

Course

Incubation
A person afflicted with scurvy may not show the more obvious symptoms for months.
Symptoms
  • weakness
  • feeling tired
  • changes to hair
  • soreness in limbs
  • gum disease
  • loose teeth
  • easy bleeding
Late stage Symptoms
  • jaundice
  • edema (swelling)
  • decreased urine production
  • neuropathy (nerve damage)
  • fever
  • convulsions
  • eventual death
