Pa-Lokai, Stone Tails
Pa-Lokai are a sub-subterranean burrowing creature of the Quzonian plains. They are capable of moving with surprising speed through the ground, and can leap up to three times their body length to escape predators.

Description

Size
12-15 kg (25-33 pounds), 0.5 metre (20 inches) body length, 1 metre (3 feet, 4 inches) length nose to tail.
Appearance
Pa-Lokai are small earth toned fur-bearing animals with short stubby legs, and a long tail ending in a rough horn-like knob. They have a flat face with small eyes and nose.
Sexual Dimorphism
Males of the species are slightly larger in size and serve the role of tunnellers, and defenders of the tunnel system.

No subspeciation is noted.

Ecology

Habitat
sub-Tropical to Temperate grasslands
Diet
Herbivore. Pa-Lokai excavate networks of tunnels below the ground, in search of food. They primarily eat the tubers of the holpa plant but have been known to damage farm crops.

Behaviour

Social Grouping
Family groups up to a dozen adults, living in communal burrows.
Temperament
Skittish, will retreat into burrows if threatened. Males will defend the communal nests.

Reproduction
Females will live birth between 4-6 pups each spring, of which approximately half will reach sexual maturity within 8 months. Young will leave the next to seek mates and establish nearby warrens of their own.
